Otis is an incredibly happy, loving, and trusting dog with the people he knows and loves. Once you’re in his circle, you’ll have a best friend for life! He’s excellent for baths, nail trims, and brushing — he truly shines when handled by familiar, confident people.
This smart boy knows his basics: sit, down, come, heel, and kennel. He’ll even stay in a perfect sit until you release him by name — especially if there’s food or playtime involved! Otis loves outdoor adventures and is happiest when camping, hiking, or mountain biking right alongside his person. And if there’s a lake or stream nearby, he’s diving in — swimming and fetch are two of his absolute favorite things.
Otis has met new people in the home and, with a little time and structure, warms up beautifully — usually within a week. He does best with clear guidance and consistency from his person, as he can become protective of his home if left to make decisions on his own. When given direction, he responds wonderfully and settles right in.
Like many dogs, Otis prefers that other pups give him space around his food or toys. He’ll give a polite growl to communicate this, but he does well with respectful canine companions who understand boundaries.
Otis has had two minor nipping incidents in the past, both in situations where he was startled or unsure — similar to the quick “herding dog” nip you might see from cattle dogs. With structure, leadership, and confidence from his handler, Otis thrives and shows his true, affectionate nature.
Otis would do best in an adult home (or a home with older teens) that can continue to provide consistency, leadership, and plenty of outdoor fun. In return, he’ll give you endless loyalty, joy, and adventure.
If you’re looking for a devoted, active companion who’s as smart as he is loving — Otis just might be your guy!
